Why we created
an
interactive
mixing course
I've been working on a song.Head brimming with exciting ideas.
But when I listen to the recording, it feels meeeeh
I want FULLNESS. Punch. Clarity. Depth.
So I keep tweaking EQ and add effects...
It sounds different – but not better.
Mixing feels really hard.
Pontus
It's demotivating.
In 2009, I produced my pop band
Keps’ first (and only) album.
We recorded everything ourselves.
Everyone was happy with the
songs.
But I kept putting off the mixing
I would sit down at my laptop. The lid felt heavy.
I'd start randomly tweaking knobs, thinking I could hear a difference.
It felt like stumbling in the dark
After just a few minutes all motivation would leave my body, like my soul wanted to escape
I would close my laptop and say to myself: "maybe tomorrow"
Eventually I finished the album, through sheer force of will. I felt … okay about it.
But it never felt like I got mixing...
It all changed when I met Björn.
He's a jazz bassist turned music producer (he has a Swedish Grammy nomination).

When I saw Björn work, things started to click.
- He had seen many situations before, so he quickly knew what to change
- He used listening methods so his ears never got stuck in "can't hear the difference"
- He didn't see mixing as a chore – he saw it as a creative process

Mixing is fun, Pontus!

pontus
It's really inspiring watching you work!
Why do you think mixing is so hard for people to learn?

björn
Hmm, most lessons explain the theory, but they leave out practicing with the tools yourself

pontus
It's the same teaching math and science! Students need interactive learning, not just lectures

björn
Exactly, they need real situations where they can try something - hear it, and know why it worked

pontus
Yep, people learn by doing!
This is where most online courses get it wrong:
- Lack of real practice. For things to sink in, you need to listen and tweak in many different, realistic situations.
- Information overload. They talk about all the knobs on the compressor all at once. We teach one knob at a time
- No feedback. To develop your mixing ear, you need to tweak and hear the difference yourself. Watching videos is not enough.

pontus
Done right, mixing becomes effortless and fun to learn!

björn
It stops being a trial-and-error chore, and becomes a genuine way to express yourself!
After 6 months of hard work, we've created the course we wish we had when we started...
It all happens in our custom mini-DAW tailored for learning.
