You’re working on a song.Head brimming with exciting ideas.
But when you hear your recording, it feels...
You know what it needs...
fullness, punch, clarity, depth
So you play around with EQ and effects
...and...well...
It sounds different, but not better
Mixing feels really hard.

It's demotivating. I know.
In 2009, I produced my pop band
Keps’ first (and only) album.
We recorded everything ourselves.
Everyone were happy with the songs.
But I kept putting off the mixing.
I would sit down at my laptop. The lid felt heavy.
I'd start randomly tweaking knobs, thinking I could hear a difference.
It felt like stumbling in the dark.
After just a few minutes all motivation would leave my body, like my soul wanted to escape.
I would close my laptop and say to myself: "maybe tomorrow".
Eventually I finished the album, through sheer force of will. I felt… okay about it.
But I never felt like I got mixing.
It all changed when I met Björn.
He's a jazz bassist turned music producer (he has a Swedish Grammy nomination).

When I saw Björn work, things started to click.
- He didn't just know about the mixing tools, he knew how to actually work with them.
- He used listening methods to help his ears, so he never got stuck in "can't hear the difference".
- He had seen many situations before, so he quickly knew what to change.

Mixing is fun!

It's really inspiring watching you work!
Why do you think mixing is so hard for people to learn?

björn
Well.. most lessons explain the tools, but they don’t train the ears.
Students need real situations where they can try something, hear it, and know why it worked.

pontus
Yes exactly! I've had the same experience with my math students.
It's why I've spent years of my life working on interactive learning..
People learn by doing!
This is where most of the courses online get it wrong:
- Lack of real practice — for things to sink in, you need to listen and tweak in many different, realistic situations.
- Information overload. They teach all the knobs on the compressor all at once, which is too much.
- No feedback. To develop your mixing ear, you need to tweak and hear the difference yourself. Watching videos is not enough.
Done right, mixing becomes effortless
and fun to learn!
It stops being a trial-and-error chore, and becomes a genuine way to express yourself.

Björn has mixed and produced hundreds of songs, is nominated for a Swedish Grammy, and has taught music production for years.

Pontus does programming, design and teaching. He loves to explain things visually and interactively (at Brilliant among others).

What tools and concepts will I learn?
Check out the course page!
If you hover the cards, you can see all the things we cover in detail.
I have never made music on a computer before. Can I still do the course?
Yes. You don't need to know anything about digital music production to do the course.
However, to get the most out of the course, we recommend that you have a DAW (like Logic, Ableton, Cubase) installed, and that you work through our real-life exercises where you apply what you've learned to your own music.
Take this as an opportunity to get started working on your music on the computer!
Will you cover all the effects used in mixing?
No. We intentionally focus only on the _most important_ effects and the most important knobs on those effects.
The most important thing is to be really solid on the fundamentals. When you have the fundamentals down, you'll find it pretty easy to learn about more advanced functionality. There are a lot of resources for learning about the details on the internet.
I've already released some songs I made on the computer. Will I get anything out of the course?
Probably! You'll probably enjoy the exercises. They've been useful and enjoyable for people who already know the mixing concepts. You'll also learn some useful techniques, such as boost and sweep.
That said, this course is mainly for people who feel like they don't know what to do when it comes to mixing.
